I remember being completely bemused the first time I saw it, trying to reconcile the amped-up rock monster imagery with the slinky grooves of the Bolan tunes I knew. 20th Century Boy is the only T-Rex single that sounds how the Electric Warrior cover looks.
Surely that cover, and the album title, are at least 50% tongue-in-cheek playing with rock iconography, in proper Glam style? It's the kind of thing you might see in a grossly debased form from the Darkness 20 years later.
The actual Paul Kossoff solo album - I googled it - has a jokey cover with his guitar lead plugged into a pair of rubbish bins. He doesn't have anything to prove about his machismo, so he is prepared to undercut his rock god credentials and say: hey I'm an ordinary bloke, just like you, and perhaps my playing is a bit rubbish, too.
The "Deluxe Edition" of the album includes a 38-minute instrumental jam with John Martyn, which on cursory listen does not seem to deserve 38 seconds. Given how the story ended, it is all quite sad.Edhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01409303370931148796noreply@blogger.com
